Charles E. Scheland
Charles Scheland is a contemporary dance artist based in New York City, currently a principal dancer with Carolyn Dorfman Dance and Thomas/Ortiz Dance. He has also danced for Site-Specific Dances, RIOULT Dance NY, Michael Mao Dance, and been a guest artist with Alison Cook-Beatty Dance, Buglisi Dance Theater, New England Dance Theater, and Princeton Dance Theater. He graduated summa cum laude from the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance program with a double major in Dance and Economics with departmental honors in both majors. Charles is thrilled to return to Neville Dance Theatre, as a guest artist once again.
Charles is an expert of the Lester Horton technique and a certified Ailey Horton Technique instructor. He is on faculty at The Ailey School and has previously taught at the School at Jacob’s Pillow, Steps on Broadway, Kanyok Arts Initiative, the Juilliard School, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. He is a senior teacher of Carolyn Dorfman’s technique and repertory and has staged her works as well as the works of Milton Myers and Michael Mao.
Outside of the dance studio, Charles works for Dance ICONS as the Programming and Content Manager, and was the Research Associate on the book You, the Choreographer, by Vladimir Angelov, published by Routledge.
