Charles E. Scheland
Charles received his early training in Germany and Austria. He relocated to Alexandria, VA in 2014 and danced for the Youth Dance Ensemble Company at Joy of Motion Dance Center in Washington, DC until June of 2016. During that time, he also was a dancer with the Choreographers' Collaboration Project company performing works by Elana Anderson and many others. Charles attended the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance program where he performed in outreach touring, events including, and concerts including the Ailey Spirit Gala at Lincoln Center (2017 and 2018), performing works by Alvin Ailey, Karen Arcenaux, Robert Battle, Adam Barruch, Clifton Brown, Tina Bush, Amy Hall, Tracy Inman, Jessica Lang, Levi Marsman, Elizabeth Roxas-Dobrish, and Henning Rübsam. He graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors in both of his majors, Dance and Economics. Charles is an alumnus of the Contemporary Program of the School at Jacob’s Pillow. He has performed further repertory by Joe Celej, Nicole Clark-Springer, Marguerite Donlon, Jae Man Joo, Bill T. Jones, Milton Myers, Paul Taylor, and others. Professionally, Charles dances for Carolyn Dorfman Dance, and has danced with RIOULT Dance NY and Michael Mao Dance. Charles has been a guest artist with Princeton Dance Theater, New England Dance Theater, Alison Cook-Beatty Dance, and Vertical Shadows Dance Company. Charles teaches ballet, Horton technique, and modern dance in and around the New York City area. He is Milton Myers' assistant and demonstrator, domestically and internationally, and is on faculty at the School at Jacob's Pillow and a guest faculty teacher at Steps on Broadway, the Ailey School, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Charles is the Research Associate and Executive Assistant at Dance ICONS, the International Consortium for Advancement in Choreography.
